The Orange County coroner identified Thomas Curtis as the man who died after being pulled from his Huntington Beach mobile home in an early morning fire.

Huntington Beach firefighters responded just after 2:20 a.m. Wednesday to a blaze at Huntington Mobile Estates at 7652 Garfield Ave.

When crews arrived, flames and heavy smoke were billowing out of one of the home’s windows, according to Battalion Chief Jeff Lopez.

A neighbor told fire crews that an older resident might be inside, and firefighters immediately pulled the 64-year-old man from the blaze, Lopez said.

Curtis was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he later died, authorities said.

Twenty-four firefighters from several agencies extinguished the fire in about 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the home, is under investigation, Lopez said.
