A 51-year-old man died after being hit by a pickup while walking in Huntington Beach on Friday night, authorities said. The driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Huntington Beach police said the crash occurred at 8:57 p.m. when the pedestrian — whose name was not released — apparently entered the westbound lanes of Warner Avenue near Rotterdam Lane and was hit by a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche.

The man was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he died.

The driver of the Avalanche — identified only as a 54-year-old man — remained at the scene and was arrested after further investigation, police said.
