Good Samaritan injured in Huntington Beach apartment fire

A person was injured Sunday after entering a burning apartment in Huntington Beach and trying to extinguish the blaze with a fire extinguisher, authorities said.

Huntington Beach firefighters responded to a report of the fire in the 6700 block of Warner Avenue at 2:13 p.m.

Crews saw flames and heavy smoke billowing from the unit’s upstairs kitchen window, fire officials said.

A bystander helped the apartment’s resident get outside. Another person who entered the apartment to help suffered an unspecified injury and was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana for evaluation, authorities said.

Fire officials are trying to determine what sparked the blaze.
