Police are looking for a man and woman suspected of being involved in a physical altercation with an autistic boy in Newport Beach, authorities said Friday.

Newport Beach officers responded to a report of a battery in the 1800 block of Balboa Boulevard at 7:25p.m. Sept.17.

A 16-year-old autistic boy was sitting alone in the back seat of a car, taking pictures with an iPad when the suspects approached him, police said.

The woman was angry that the boy took a photo of them and she began shouting at him, eventually pushing him several times, according to police.

Two nearby adults who knew the boy overheard the altercation and rushed over to intervene. They explained to the woman that the boy had autism and enjoyed taking photographs to entertain himself, police said.

One of the adults who intervened called police. The two suspects then walked away eastbound down Balboa Boulevard.

Police described the woman as white with long, dark-blonde hair, approximately 24 to 27 years old, about 5 feet, 4 inches tall, and 125 to 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing an olive green jacket and black leggings.

Police described the man as white with dark hair, facial hair, about 6 feet, 1 inches tall, and about 200 to 220 pounds.

Police said he was last seen wearing jeans and a “Newport Beach Lifeguard” shirt.
