Motorcyclist killed in Newport Beach crash identified as 26-year-old Costa Mesa man

A 26-year-old Costa Mesa man was identified as a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash Saturday in Newport Beach, authorities said.

Orange County coroner’s officials identified him as Todd Anthony Davis Jr.

Newport Beach police responded to a report of a crash involving a 2015 Mazda CX-5 SUV and a 2014 Yamaha FZ-09 motorcycle near the intersection of Irvine Avenue and Orchard Drive at 10:11 a.m.

Davis was traveling north on Irvine Avenue as the SUV was turning left from southbound Irvine onto Orchard, police said.

Davis was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken to a trauma center, where he died of his injuries within an hour of the crash, police said.

The woman driving the SUV was not injured.
