Sunny Hills/Wayne Walker Invitational

FULLERTON — Raquel Powers finished first in the senior race in 18 minutes, helping Corona del Mar’s seniors place first as a team on Friday.

In the freshman event, CdM’s Julia Tung won with a time of 18:50. The CdM freshmen placed second as a team.

The next event for CdM is the Pacific Coast League cluster meet on Oct. 6 at Irvine Regional Park in Orange.

Brentwood Small Schools Invitational

LOS ANGELES — Sophomore Maya Jaffe finished fifth in 20 minutes 11 seconds, helping the Lightning take second as a team on Saturday.

Sage Hill’s other four runners included Ashton Carroll (12th, 21:11), Julia Lowe (13th, 21:12), Alice Warden (17th, 21:39) and Olivia Lowe (18th, 21:44).

Dana Hills Invitational

DANA POINT — Newport Harbor’s Mia Matsunami won the Division 2 sophomore race in 17 minutes 53.5 seconds on Saturday.

The Sailors compete in the Central Park Invitational at Central Park in Huntington Beach next Saturday.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Dana Hills Invitational

DANA POINT — Sophomore Alexis Garcia finished seventh in Saturday’s senior invitational heat with a time of 14 minutes 49 seconds, the second-best mark in Newport Harbor history.

Newport Harbor’s Mark Field came in 11th in 14:58, followed by Bentley Wilson (17th, 15:03).

Mikael Campo was 13th (16:17) in the junior race.

Luke Downing and Michael Davey ran 16:19 and took seventh and eighth, respectively, in the sophomore race.

FULLERTON — Josh Means took third in the sophomore race in 16 minutes 24 seconds, as Corona del Mar won the sophomore team event on Friday.

The Sea Kings had two other sophomores finish in the top six. Joey Cianfrani was fifth (16:26) and Ian Turner came in sixth (16:31).

CdM’s Leif Hellgren placed sixth in the senior race in 18 minutes.

In the freshmen event, CdM’s Thomas Glessing was fourth (17:20).

The Sea Kings’ Pacific Coast League cluster meet is on Oct. 6 at Irvine Regional Park in Orange.

LOS ANGELES — Sophomore Luke Nataupsky placed ninth in 17 minutes 41 seconds, and the Lightning finished third as a team on Saturday.

Sage Hill’s Kyle Patel was 10th (17:47), followed by Greg Suhr (15th, 18:05), Matt Warden (20th, 18:24) and Calvin Brown (33rd, 19:23).

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sage Hill def. Downey Calvary Chapel

Senior Jamie Daley finished with eight kills and three service aces for the Lightning in a 25-3, 25-5, 25-6 sweep in a Academy League match at home on Friday.

Jade Blevins had 19 assists, seven aces and three kills for Sage Hill (10-7, 4-0 in league), ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Division 3 poll.
