High School Roundup: Newport Harbor boys’ basketball routs Segerstrom

Senior guard Zack Swies finished with 21 points and six three-pointers, leading the Newport Harbor High boys’ basketball team to a 65-46 nonleague win at Segerstrom on Tuesday night.

Dayne Chalmers had 12 points for the Sailors (12-4), while Sam Barela added 10 points.

Newport Harbor hosts Huntington Beach in a Sunset League opener at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Edison 91, California Military Institute 39: Senior Spencer Serven and junior Kaden Headington had 14 points apiece in the Chargers’ home opener on Tuesday.

David Atencio contributed 10 points for Edison (10-5), which has won six of its last seven games.

The Chargers open Sunset League play at home against Marina on Friday at 7 p.m. Edison shared the league title last season.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Edison 2, Huntington Beach 0: Junior Chloe Helenihi and sophomore Abby McCollam each scored for the host Chargers in a Sunset League opener on Tuesday.

Edison improved 8-2-4 overall.
