High School Roundup: Costa Mesa girls’ tennis clinches outright Orange Coast League title

Leslie Delgado swept three singles matches without dropping a game as the Costa Mesa High girls’ tennis team beat Saddleback 13-5 on the road on Tuesday, clinching the outright Orange Coast League title.

It is the first league title for Costa Mesa since winning the Golden West League in 2002.

Hallie Tran swept at No. 2 singles for Costa Mesa (14-2, 9-0 in league), which has won 13 straight matches. The Mustangs conclude league play at home against rival Estancia on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Newport Harbor 10, Los Alamitos 8: Kat Smith and Trish Harano swept in doubles for the visiting Sailors in Tuesday’s Surf League match.

Amra Barton and Avery Wooden won two of three doubles sets for Newport Harbor (12-4, 3-1 in league), which clinched a top-two finish in the league and an automatic berth into the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

Kristin Lindh won twice in singles for the Sailors, who host Fountain Valley on Thursday.

Corona del Mar 18, Fountain Valley 0: Kristina Evleova won three singles sets without dropping a game for the host Sea Kings in Tuesday’s Surf League match.

Janie Marcus and Roxy MacKenzie also swept in singles for CdM (14-2, 4-0 in league).

The Sea Kings, ranked No. 4 in CIF Southern Section Division 1, play at No. 6 Rolling Hills Estates Palos Verdes Peninsula in a key nonleague match on Wednesday.

Laguna Beach 15, Marina 3: Sarah MacCallum swept in singles as the host Breakers clinched at least a share of the Wave League title on Tuesday.

Megan Mindte and Vanessa Gee swept in doubles for Laguna Beach (9-9, 4-0 in league). Ainsley Beresford won twice in singles.

The Breakers can clinch the outright title with a win at Edison (2-2 in league) on Thursday.

Wave League Individual finals

Nicole Nesbitt is one of four Newport Harbor golfers who made the cut. Nesbitt had a 74, tying her for third place. Sabrina Nesbitt had a 75 (fifth), Wa Yeung Tong a 76 (sixth) and Camille Waltos a 91 (11th).

Play resumes Wednesday on the same course. The top four will advance to the CIF Southern Section Southern Individual Regional tournament at Chino Hills’ Western Hills Country Club on Oct. 24.

Orange Coast League Individual finals

Estancia’s Lexi Thorpe and Lexi Jaeger each finished in the top four on Tuesday at Costa Mesa Country Club and they qualified for the CIF Southern Section Southern Individual Regional tournament.

Thorpe finished third with a three-round total of 128, followed by Jaeger’s 143.
