Baseball: Newport Beach Bronco 11 All-Stars in SoCal Super Region Tournament

The Newport Beach Baseball Assn. Bronco 11 All-Stars have advanced to the West Zone Southern California Super Region Tournament. The locals, who finished second in the district tournament to advance, open against Simi Valley on Friday at 5:15 p.m. at York Field in Whittier.

Newport Beach scored eight runs in the seventh inning to rally for a 16-10 win against host Fountain Valley to finish second in the PONY West Zone Central Region District Bronco-11 Tournament at Mile Square Park on July 3.

In the Central Region District championship game, Newport Beach lost to Placentia, 14-1. Newport Beach’s Tyler Duss hit a home run.

Newport Beach faced Fountain Valley in the next game, and it overcame a six-run deficit, scoring two runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and eight in the seventh. In the seventh, Andrew Meihe hit a home run, sparking Newport Beach’s come-from-behind win.

Newport Beach’s Dustin Miller picked up the win after throwing scoreless innings in the sixth and seventh.

Conrad Olivier-Meier, Peter Bonin, Cameron Maloney, Luca Curci and Troy Jenkins had two hits each for Newport Beach.

Nick Salmon played strong defense all series, as did Nate Chambliss and Fisher Franzyk.
