Lightning runner-up in tourney

The Newport Lightning Basketball Club 13U Black team continued its strong winter season by earning runner-up in the 16-team Toys For Tots Tournament in Long Beach Dec. 3-4.

The NLBC was led all weekend by the scoring and playmaking Sanjay Tewari, who led the team averaging 15 points and six assists per game.

Jordan Stucki was hot from long-range hitting 15 three-pointers and averaged 13 points per game.

Braedyn Benhard was a beast on the boards all weekend averaging 14 rebounds and three blocks per game.

Nic Peloso was an all-around threat averaging three steals, nine rebounds and five points.

Julian Daaboul and Jack Bolt both hit big shots and played tremendous defense, while Sean Turner, Jack Pluma, Brendan Jennings and David Somoya played key roles getting the team to the championship game with their staunch defense and team play.

Stucki, Tewari and Benhard were all named to the all-tournament team.
