Junior College Football: OCC rolls past Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA – Sophomore quarterback Kody Whitaker threw three touchdown passes to freshman Joey Cox to lead visiting Orange Coast College to a 46-14 nonconference victory on Saturday at Santa Monica College.

Whitaker, who sat out last week’s loss to Ventura due to a concussion, completed 11 of 13 for 216 of OCC’s 236 passing yards.

The Pirates also rushed for 234 yards, including 103 on 13 carries by A’Brae Booker-Curin and 86 yards on 16 attempts by Burrell Walker. Both Booker-Curin and Walker scored two touchdowns.

OCC (2-2) scored first, but trailed, 7-6, midway through the first quarter. In then scored 40 straight points, including 27 in the second quarter, to run away from the Corsairs (0-4).

Cox finished with four receptions for 88 yards.

Defensively, Josh Howell had three of the Pirates’ seven sacks and cornerback Sharky Reza had his third interception of the season.

Santa Monica had minus-three rushing yards and only 133 yards total offense.

OCC plays host to Mt. San Antonio on Saturday at 6 p.m.
