Around Town: Costa Mesa Foundation gives awards to area groups

The Costa Mesa Foundation hosted a celebration dinner Wednesday at the Neighborhood Community Center.

During the dinner, foundation leaders presented money to several area nonprofits, including the Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club, Save Our Youth and Youth Employment Service, as well as to the Costa Mesa and Estancia high school cheerleading teams.

The foundation raised money throughout the summer with its concert series in Fairview Park.

Mesa Water District sponsors video contest

The Mesa Water District is organizing a video contest for local high school and college students.

Contestants are asked to make a “fun and informative 60-second video highlighting Mesa Water and the difference it makes in the community,” according to a news release.

Videos must be submitted by 5p.m. Oct.26. First place is $500, second $400 and third $300. Winners will be announced Nov. 3.

H.B. High to host car show for hall of fame funding

Huntington Beach High School is sponsoring its third annual Classic and Custom Car and Motorcycle Show fundraiser Oct.29.

Proceeds will go toward the creation of an athletics hall of fame.

The event, which includes food, live music and a raffle, is from 9a.m. to 2p.m. at the high school, 1905 Main St., Huntington Beach.

Registration for cars starts at $30. Spectators get in free.

Charity league raises money for nonprofits

The Newport Beach National Charity League Juniors Chapter hosted its Fashion Trend event at Bloomingdale’s in Newport Beach’s Fashion Island on Sept.20, according to a news release.

With the theme of “denim and jewels,” designer Melinda Maria shared her collection of jewelry. Maria Lucas of Bloomingdale’s presented seasonal denim trends.

Event proceeds will support High Hopes Head Injury Program, Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation and the Harry and Grace Steele Children’s Center at Orange Coast College.

Harvesters, South Coast Plaza to host benefit fashion show

The Harvesters, a fundraising group for Second Harvest Food Bank and South Coast Plaza, are raising money for the food bank with their 24th annual fashion show and luncheon Thursday.

The event starts at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall with a silent auction and Champagne reception before a runway show at the Samueli Theater. Following the show, there is a luncheon at the concert hall and after-party at the Center Club.

Kendra Scott to host fundraiser

Jewelry brand Kendra Scott is hosting its Kendra Gives Back Party on Oct.12 at its Fashion Island store in Newport Beach.

The fundraiser from 5 to 8p.m. benefits MOMs Orange County, a Santa Ana-based nonprofit that helps low-income pregnant women and their families.
