Biz News: Barbershop opens at Pacific City in Huntington Beach

Rudy’s Barbershop opened a new store in Huntington Beach at Pacific City on Thursday, marking the 20th location in the U.S. and the sixth in Southern California for the franchise.

The shop, which serves men, women and children, is located next to the Equinox gym at 21010 Pacific Coast Hwy.

Costa Mesa housing project wins industry award

Miraval Mesa Verde, a 10-unit housing tract in Costa Mesa’s Mesa Verde neighborhoods, was recently honored by the Building Industry Assn.’s of Southern California Greater Sales and Marketing Council.

The development by Irvine-based Pinnacle Residential and Collective Housing Supply, based in Newport Beach, won Best Architectural Design of a Detached Home priced $1.25million to $2million.

The community at 2880 Mesa Verde Drive replaced the First Church of Christ, Scientist campus that had been there since 1968. The tract is nearly sold out, according to a news release.

OptumRx looking to hire 120 people in Costa Mesa

OptumRx, UnitedHealth Group’s free-standing pharmacy care services business, is adding 120 pharmacy customer service representative jobs at its Costa Mesa offices, according to a news release.

The positions will be based at 3515 Harbor Blvd.

Preferred qualifications include one year of experience in an office or call center setting, or in a phone support role, the company stated.

FDA approves Duchenne drug

Newport Beach-based CureDuchenne announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted accelerated approval of Eteplirsen for the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

“This is the first approved drug-therapy and a major breakthrough in the fight against Duchenne,” the nonprofit said in a statement. “We couldn’t be prouder of the researchers at Sarepta Therapeutics and the families who participated in the trials.”

CureDuchenne provided early funding for Cambridge, Mass.-based Sarepta Therapeutics and called the success of Eteplirsen, which is effective for about 13% of those with Duchenne, “a building block for future treatments.”

Olive oil specialty store coming to CdM

Baker and Olive, a specialty food store with olive oils, balsamic vinegars, infusions and fromage, is planning to have a soft opening in Corona del Mar in October, followed by a grand opening celebration in November.

It will be the company’s fourth location and its largest to date, according to a news release.

Baker and Olive will be at 928 Avocado Ave., Suite 928, in the Corona del Mar Plaza shopping center.

Bluewater Grill to host employee reunion

Bluewater Grill is having a 20th anniversary homecoming party from 3 to 6p.m. Sept.29 at the restaurant’s original Cannery Village location, 630 Lido Park Drive, Newport Beach.

Past and present employees of Bluewater —including those who worked in its other restaurants in Tustin, Redondo Beach and elsewhere — will be celebrating. The event also includes a recognition of 20-year employees and a group photo.
