More than a thousand homes and Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza mall lost power for almost an hour Thursday night after a power cable malfunctioned, according to Southern California Edison.

The outage was caused by a failed underground cable at MacArthur Boulevard near Greenville Street, spokeswoman Sally Jeun said.

Jeun said 1,480 houses were affected by the outage, which began at 8:27 p.m. and was fixed by 9:22 p.m.
