A 19-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with the stabbing of another man in a Costa Mesa apartment, authorities said.

Officers responded just before 1 p.m. to a report of a stabbing in the 900 block of West 18th Street between Monrovia and Placentia avenues. The caller told police that the caller’s roommate had been stabbed and was bleeding, said Costa Mesa police Sgt. Bang Le.

Witnesses told police the man who stabbed the roommate ran north on West 18th Street, Le said.

The 18-year-old stabbing victim, who was not identified by name, suffered a non-life-threatening laceration to his clavicle and was taken to a hospital for treatment. He underwent surgery and was in stable condition Tuesday morning, police said.

After a 20-minute search of the area, Costa Mesa police, with assistance from a Huntington Beach police helicopter crew, found the suspect in a patio area of an apartment complex at 1850 Whittier Ave., Le said.

Police arrested Quinten Jeffrey Abubo of Anaheim on suspicion of assault, police spokeswoman Roxi Fyad said.

The circumstances surrounding the stabbing were not immediately known, nor was whether the two men knew each other.
