Several years after the Tabibzadeh family purchased their home on Rimcrest Drive overlooking downtown Glendale, they remodeled with new paint, kitchen cabinets, countertops and backyard features.

On Saturday, their home will be on display during the 58th annual Hoover Tour of Homes, one of the longest-running fundraisers put on by the high school’s PTA. Proceeds help Hoover students pay for college.

The Tabibzadeh home will be one of four open to participants.

When parent organizers told Koko Tabibzadeh they needed one more home on the tour this year, she volunteered without hesitation.

Both of Tabibzadeh’s sons, now ages 18 and 23, attended Hoover High, and she has helped organize the event in the past.

This year, Hoover’s chorus will perform for guests in her backyard, where the Tabibzadeh family expanded the swimming pool and added a slide after moving into the home in 2000.

“We wanted a house where [my] kids could bring their friends and they could be physically active as opposed to just sitting at the computer and watching TV,” she said.

The family has an indoor court that can be used for basketball, racquetball or volleyball — an attraction that brings just as many as her husband’s friends to the house as her sons’, she said.

Last year’s event helped Hoover’s PTA award $14,000 in scholarships to 20 graduating seniors.

Tickets cost $25 before the event or $30 on Saturday.
