A car wash employee at the Americana at Brand was hospitalized Wednesday night after his co-worker stabbed him in the neck in a parking lot at the shopping center, police said.

Just before 7 p.m., officers were called to the basement level of the structure, where the suspect stabbed the 36-year-old victim on the right side of his neck after a disagreement over work, according to Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot. The suspect fled the scene after the attack.

The first officer on scene, who participated in tactical medical training last week, packed the wound with gauze before the victim was transported to the hospital. The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

As of Thursday afternoon, the victim had been released from the hospital.

After obtaining the suspect’s name, detectives were working on locating him. Authorities have not recovered a weapon.

The stabbing was “not a random act,” Lightfoot said.

According to an email statement from Caruso Affiliated, which owns the Americana at Brand, “neither employee was a guest or employee” of the Americana, as a third-party vendor operates the car wash.

“The safety of our guests at the Americana at Brand is and always has been our number one priority,” the firm said in the email.

Further details were not available, and the investigation remains ongoing.
