A fire in a Glendale apartment unit early Thursday morning caused an estimated $90,000 in damage, officials said.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was contained to one unit of a two-story apartment building in the 1300 block of Fifth Street, said Glendale Fire spokeswoman Brandy Villanueva.

Shortly before 6 a.m., firefighters responded to the complex, where they found heavy smoke on a second-floor patio from the fire, which had extended into the chimney and roof. The blaze was knocked down in 19 minutes, Villanueva said.

Officials are investigating what caused the fire. Glendale fire officials urged residents to make sure their sprinklers and smoke detectors are working properly.
