Briefs: Local hospital offers $99 mammograms during Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Share

Throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, USC Verdugo Hills Hospital is offering $99 mammograms at its Dixie Lee Ratcliff Breast Center, 1818 Verdugo Blvd., Suite 103, Glendale.

This coming Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, the Glendale Police Department will park a pink patrol vehicle at the main entrance to the hospital.

“We’re so excited to be doing this again,” said Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot. “Anything we can do to shed light on this important health topic and remind women to receive proper screening is of utmost importance. There’s nothing like seeing a police officer on a pink motorcycle to remind you to get your annual mammogram or to encourage your wife, sister or girlfriend to do so.”

Also on Wednesday, members of the Glendale Police Department will be selling pink ribbons at the hospital and employees from the hospital’s food services department will be giving away pink treats.

To schedule a mammogram, call (818) 952-2266.

City eases process of dropping off vote-by-mail ballots

Voters who are registered to vote by mail or have requested a vote-by-mail ballot, may drop off their ballot at the City Clerk’s Office in Glendale City Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.

City Hall is at 613 E. Broadway, Glendale.

Voters who choose to cast their vote-by-mail ballot on election day may drop off their ballot at their polling place.

Over the last decade, the number of people voting by mail has steadily increased with nearly half the ballots cast in Glendale’s municipal elections being cast early by mail, according to city officials.

The November general election will be conducted by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk, and Glendale is working with that county agency on this effort, city officials said.
