Montrose Library hosts mahjong players

Share

Mahjong, a tile-based game that was developed in China during the Qing dynasty and is now played throughout the world, is played every Thursday and Friday, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Montrose Library, 2465 Honolulu Ave.

The game is played with 144 tiles based on Chinese characters and symbols, with each player beginning with 13 tiles.

Usually, each game has four players. Similar to the card game rummy, mahjong involves skill, strategy and calculation, but also involves a degree of chance.
