On Thursday, Glendale Community College celebrated the opening of Sierra Vista, a three-story, roughly 95,000-square-foot student services facility and now the largest building on the Verdugo campus.

Armine Hacopian, the college board’s president, joined David Viar, the school’s superintendent/president, for the grand opening of the building, where a bottle of champagne was smashed to mark the “launch” of Sierra Vista.

The $49-million site was paid for by a combination of state and Measure G funds and houses the college’s journalism department and culinary arts school as well as admissions and records, counseling, career services, financial aid and various classrooms.

Student trustee Colleen Gabrimasshi and Glendale Mayor Vartan Gharpetian also spoke during the ceremony.
