Glendale police say they arrested two men early Friday morning who were reportedly driving around in a stolen car.

William Matusewski and Patrick Pascarella were arrested on suspicion of stealing the vehicle after the two were stopped by an officer in the 900 block of Omar Street around 2:15 a.m., according to Tahnee Lightfoot, a spokeswoman for the Glendale Police Department.

She said the officer stopped the two based on a paper license-plate violation.

The officer soon discovered the vehicle was reported stolen from Santa Monica. Matusewski, a 40-year-old from Simi Valley, and Pascarella, a 25-year-old from New York, were detained.

During a search of the vehicle, Lightfoot said police found several items including a BB gun, a magazine for a high-capacity rifle, gloves, flashlights, tools and a substance that resembled heroin. Identification belonging to other people were also found in the car, she said.

Matusewski, who was on probation for a narcotics offense, was also found to have a small packet of a white powder-like substance in his pocket.

The two were placed under arrest and booked into the Glendale City Jail.
