Letter: Greed lurks during holidays

Share

Ebenezer Scrooge is the prime model of corporations as they greedily count their green money. Congress’ advice is to share our love, for love is pain. This greed-based love lurks around especially during holidays.

The Washington, D.C. stairs are filled with lobbyists who march up and down, wishing to take one last bite of the Christmas fruitcake. Let us contemplate on Socrates’ wisdom where money comes from: “I tell you that virtue is not given by money, but that from virtue comes money and every other goods of man, public as well as private.”

Christ brings the gift of joy. Corporations advertise to share the joy, happiness, and “Dream!” Congress’ Christmas gift is the forever rising budget cuts and debt ceilings. Don’t allow politicians project pain onto us nor corporations falsely lure us, when “Homeless, Please Help” is still a reality in Glendale.

We want the American Dream to remain in our lives and the return of Corporate America. Rather, Congress proposes that Americans take part in the stock market of major corporations, and suggests we take part in giving our Christmas toys to the stock market in exchange for Scrooge’s wallet.

Congress constantly tells us not to worry when our Christmas toys are stolen and stuffed into “Santa’s bag” for when they are delivered to the corporate owners’ homes, the toys will multiply.

Dear Congress, we all want our sweet home to be filled with love and happiness. We dream big regardless of what home we have. Santa flies from one happy home to another to bring laughter to children. Santa gives presents! This is the true spirit of Christmas. Merry Christmas!
