On Campus at GCC: ‘Elephant’s Graveyard’ set for two-weekend run

“Elephant’s Graveyard,” by George Brandt, will be presented by the theater arts department at Glendale Community College for a two-weekend run in the Auditorium Mainstage Theatre beginning Oct. 27.

The production is directed by Jeanette D. Farr and will feature live music by Matthew Braaten.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Oct. 27, 28, 29 and Nov. 3, 4 and 5, and at 2 p.m. Oct. 30 and Nov. 6. Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for students and seniors.

Due to strong language and mild adult themes, the play is not recommended for children. There is no intermission. Tickets may be purchased online at glendalearts.org, at the college’s box office located in the auditorium building, at the Alex Theatre box office or at the concierge desk at the Americana at Brand.

Open registration for winter continues

Open registration continues for the winter 2017 session through Jan. 6. The winter session will begin Jan. 9 and continues through Feb. 16. Go to glendale.edu/schedules and select “Winter 2017” from the drop down term menu to view the courses offered.

The spring 2017 class schedule is also available. It begins Feb. 21. Priority spring registration begins Oct. 31 for those who are eligible. Open registration for spring will begin Nov. 21.

New students must complete an application before registering. Go to glendale.edu and click “Apply and Register.”

No too early to plan for summer study abroad

Glendale Community College is offering study-abroad excursions to Ireland and England as well as to Bali and Sydney, Australia this summer.

The college has offered programs in summer, winter and spring to several locations including Paris, Prague, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Italy, Greece, Bali, Spain and Ireland.

The Ireland/England program costs $2,895, plus airfare and college fees. Students will meet on campus June 19 through 27 and will be abroad June 29 through July 24.

Students must enroll in a minimum of four units of coursework. Courses offered are in political science, English and ethnic studies.

The other program, Bali and Sydney, Australia, costs $2,495, plus airfare and college fees. Students will be on campus June 19 through 23 and abroad June 25 to July 21. Students must enroll in at least two of the three courses offered, which are in geography, music and anthropology.

Study abroad programs at the college follow the guidelines developed by the Council on International Educational Exchange for the U.S. Department of State, which focus on expansion of student opportunities for study and work abroad as well as the guidelines of the California Colleges for International Education, a consortium of California community colleges.

Parent education hosts fall festival

The Glendale College Parent Education Assn. will hold its annual fall festival, called the Harvest Hoedown, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 5 on the college’s Life Skills parking lot, off Mountain Street.

The event will feature games, rides, food truck, petting zoo, pony rides and craft booths. The cost is $20 per child, ages 2 and older, with $5 off for siblings. For more information, go to gcpea.org.
