GCC: Fall concerts to begin this month at Glendale Community College

The fall concert season at Glendale Community College begins next week with the chamber jazz concert at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 in the school’s auditorium. The group is led by Chris Coulter.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for students and seniors.

A free music recital by students in the applied music program will be presented at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 17 in the auditorium. There will be performances by instrumentalists and vocalists. Beth Pflueger is the coordinator of the applied music program.

Pflueger is also conductor of the Glendale College Community Orchestra, which will present its fall concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 3 in the auditorium. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for students and seniors.

Two jazz concerts will be presented next weekend. The vocal jazz ensemble and jazz guitar ensemble will perform a concert led by directors Byron and Clare Delto. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 in the auditorium.

The program will include instrumental and vocal arrangements of jazz and popular tunes.

On Nov. 19, the Little Big Band and Thursday Jazz Combos take the stage at 4 p.m. under the direction of Byron Delto and Chris Rios.

Both performances will be in the auditorium. Tickets for either jazz concert are $10 for general admission, $7 for students and seniors.

Choral works and opera excerpts will be on the program for a performance by the college choir, chamber singers and opera workshop ensemble on Dec. 2. Tobin Sparfeld and Anita Protich are the music directors.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $7 for students and seniors.

Two free recitals are coming up The chamber music recital will be presented on Dec. 1 and the student piano recital will be presented on Dec. 8.

Both will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in room 211 of the auditorium.

The school’s concert singers will perform at 4 p.m. on Dec. 10 at Church of the Good Shepard, 400 Duarte Road in Arcadia.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for students and seniors.

Tickets for concerts are available at the auditorium box office starting an hour before the performance.

Application period for summer/fall priority registration

Applications for summer and fall 2018 at Glendale Community College will be accepted beginning Nov. 20. Those who apply by March 30 for summer and April 27 for fall will be eligible for priority registration.

Open registration is currently underway for the winter 2018 session, which will begin on Jan. 8. Open registration for spring 2018 will begin Nov. 20. The spring semester will begin Feb. 20.

Faculty/alumni dance performances slated

The annual Glendale Community College faculty/alumni dance production will be held over three days, with four performances in the auditorium, beginning Dec. 8.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. on Dec. 8; 2 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 9; and 2 p.m. on Dec. 10.

Admission is free. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Early arrival is advised. Children under 5 years old will not be admitted.

Dancers in the show include students enrolled in the college’s jazz performance skills class. The choreography is by faculty, students, alumni and guests.
