World War II heroes Lt. Col. Elmo E. Maiden, 97, left, Army Air Corps Cpt. Art Sherman, 94, center, and Lt. Michael A. La Vere, 90, right, were in attendance during Wilson Middle School Veteran’s Day assembly at the Glendale school on Tuesday, November 10, 2015. Maiden was a pilot on a B-24 Liberator and flew 35 combat missions from 1944-45. La Vere was a navigator on a B-24 in Europe from 1943-45. Sherman was a bombardier and an intelligence officer in Italy during World War II as well. A special presentation for World War II hero Louis Zamperini was also shown.
