Sports Roundup: Glendale college baseball has shot to share title afterall

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Glendale Community College 15, College of the Canyons 5: The Vaqueros salvaged the final game of the three-game Western State Conference East Division series Friday at Stengel Field, along with possibly sharing the conference title.

Glendale (31-7-1, 15-3-1 in the division) trails Canyons (17-2 in the division) by a half-game. Glendale will resume its division road game from March 25 against Citrus at 1 p.m. Saturday with the contest tied at 8 entering the top of the 15th inning. The game was suspended because of darkness. A Vaqueros win would give them a share of the division.

On Friday, Bruno Teramoto hit a two-run home run.

BASEBALL

St. Francis 8, Alemany 5: Brandon Lewis had two hits, two runs batted in and a run scored as the Golden Knights prevailed in Mission League play Friday at the Glendale Sports Complex.

Nolan Shwery threw 6 1/3 innings for the win, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Jacob Becthold added two hits and a run for the Knights (7-16, 4-8 in league).

Crescenta Valley 11, Muir 1 (five innings): The Falcons improved to 22-1, 10-0 in the Pacific League with Friday’s home win, as Trevor Beer went the distance with nine strikeouts, no walks, one hit and one run allowed.

Kewin Ledesma had three hits and a run batted in, Beer also had two hits and an RBI and Jake Schaffer had two RBI.

Pasadena 5, Glendale 2: Glendale fell Friday in a Pacific League road contest. The Nitros dipped to 2-17-1, 1-9 in league.

Burbank 10, Hoover 3: The Tornadoes lost a Pacific League road game Friday. Hoover is 3-14, 0-10 in league.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

Glendale 14, Westridge 10: Rachel Fong finished with eight goals Friday and Xcaret Salvador added three to spark the host Nitros in a Pacific League match. Glendale is 12-7, 2-2 in league.

SOFTBALL

Mayfield 12, Flintridge Prep 8: Flintridge Prep fell in a Prep League road contest Friday. The Rebels (8-6, 4-5 in league) got three runs batted in each from Libby Penn and Melissa Grande.
