LA CRESCENTA — Coming off a hard-fought tie with its rival, the Crescenta Valley High girls’ soccer team looked to stay on track against Burbank on Tuesday.

With Chloe Ataya leading the charge, the Falcons were able to get the job done in convincing fashion.

Ataya finished with three goals and one assist to propel host Crescenta Valley to a 6-0 victory over Burbank.

It marked the second time this season that Ataya, a freshman, recorded a hat trick against Burbank. Ataya earlier accomplished the feat in an 8-0 win at Burbank on Dec. 8.

“We had a good game against Arcadia [on Friday], so we knew we had to come out and play hard right away today,” Ataya said. “We’ve played some exciting games in league and we had to be ready against Burbank.

“I missed early on a chance and I was mad. So, I wanted to come back the next time and finish on my chances.”

Crescenta Valley received two goals from Kathryn Thamasian and one from Ashlin Cuesta while limiting Burbank (1-9-2, 0-6-2) to no shots on goal.

Thamasian scored in the first minute to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead off an assist from Sarah Gabon.

Crescenta Valley made it 2-0 on a goal by Ataya in the seventh minute before making it 3-0 on a tally by Cuesta in the 18th minute.

“I’m happy with the start and the way we responded after getting the emotional tie,” Crescenta Valley coach Tyraysha Peterson said. “We had to get right back up against Burbank and just take care of our business.

“We have a lot of underclassmen and they are learning about the league and just how tough it can be. They are making lots of improvement each game.”

Ataya scored to make it 4-0 in the 54th minute before scoring again about four minutes later to extend the advantage to 5-0.

Thamasian closed out the scoring in the 74th minute.

Burbank first-year coach Pablo Diaz said the Bulldogs couldn’t recover from the early deficit.

“It’s an uphill battle when you are down 3-0 just like that,” Diaz said. “I thought we played better in the second half.

“We definitely have a very young team and our players are learning a new system. We’re just trying to stay with it and continue to build character.”

The Falcons and Bulldogs will participate in league matches at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Crescenta Valley will be at Pasadena and Burbank will be at home versus Hoover.
