The following are updates on local baseball players at the minor league level

Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) Tacoma Rainiers pitcher: It’s been an interesting season for Bergman, as he’s spent part of it with the Seattle Mariners and Tacoma. Bergman, a former All-Area Baseball Player of the Year, is back with Tacoma, the triple-A affiliate of Seattle in the Pacific Coast League.

Bergman, who had two stints with Seattle, registered a victory in his last appearance Friday. The starter went five innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on seven hits in Tacoma’s 7-6 road win against the Salt Lake Bees. The right-hander gave up two home runs and struck out one and walked one on 85 pitches.

Bergman, who signed a minor league contract with Seattle in the offseason after previously playing for the Colorado Rockies, led the team in victories with nine through Wednesday. He’s 9-3 with a 5.02 earned-run average in 15 appearances (all starts). He’s struck out 61 and walked 17 in 84 1/3 innings with one shutout. Bergman, a UC Irvine product, has allowed 48 runs (47 earned) on 97 hits with Tacoma.

With Seattle, Bergman was 4-4 with a 4.91 ERA in 11 games (eight as a starter). He struck out 33 and walked 14 and gave up 29 runs (28 earned) in 51 1/3 innings.

Justin Lewis (La Cañada High, 2014) Arizona League Dodgers pitcher: Lewis turned in an outstanding effort Monday against the Arizona League Diamondbacks. The reliever, who was taken in the 28th round (850th overall) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers in June, tossed two scoreless innings in a 5-2 defeat.

Lewis didn’t factor in the decision, but was impressive. The former All-Rio Hondo League and All-Area honoree struck out five, all swinging. Lewis struck out the side in the seventh inning before striking out two in the eighth.

Lewis was 1-0 with a 1.29 earned-run average in three appearances with the Arizona squad through Wednesday. He’s struck out 10 and walked one while allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in seven innings.

Lewis was originally assigned to the rookie affiliate Ogden Raptors on Aug. 14. Lewis had a 10.45 earned-run average in eight relief outings totaling 10 1/3 innings. Lewis struck out 10, walked six and gave up 12 earned runs on 14 hits.

On Aug. 14, the Dodgers sent Lewis to another rookie club, the Arizona League Dodgers.

Overall, he’s 1-0 with one save, a 6.75 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 17 1/3 innings.

Cesar Ramos (La Crescenta resident) Lehigh Valley IronPigs pitcher: Ramos, a left-hander who spent most of last season with the Texas Rangers, has had a couple of rough outings since picking up his first save of the season Aug. 17.

Ramos gave up two runs (both earned) on three hits in the ninth inning of Lehigh Valley’s 7-4 defeat against the Syracuse Chiefs on Tuesday. On Sunday, Ramos, a Long Beach State product, yielded one run and one hit in the IronPigs’ 5-4 defeat against the Charlotte Knights. He struck out two and walked two in a 45-pitch outing.

Ramos recorded a save for Lehigh, the triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies in the International League, against the Norfolk Tides. He went 1 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking one in a 6-1 win.

Ramos was 4-4 with a 3.95 earned-run average in 35 appearances (24 as a reliever) through Wednesday. Ramos has struck out 70 and walked 31 in 86 2/3 innings. He’s surrendered 48 runs (38 earned) and 83 hits.

Angelo La Bruna (La Canada native) Hagerstown Suns infielder: La Bruna, a USC product, had a single in four at-bats in Hagerstown’s 4-2 loss against the Kannapolis Intimidators on Monday. La Bruna, who was drafted by the Washington Nationals in 2015, recorded the hit in the fifth inning.

He registered a double in the 10th inning after walking in the fifth in a 3-2 loss in 11 innings against Kannapolis on Sunday.

Through Wednesday, La Bruna was batting .217 (47 for 217) with seven doubles, two triples and 14 runs batted in. He’s scored 23 runs in 68 games for Hagerstown, the class-A affiliate of Washington in the South Atlantic League.
