Sports Roundup: St. Francis soccer rallies late for season-opening victory

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 2, Lancaster 1: Riley Baz and Neil Markey scored less than a minute apart late in the second half to propel host St. Francis to a season-opening nonleague win Monday at Friedman Field.

Alex Berberian had an assist on Markey’s match-winning goal with about nine minutes left. St. Francis goalkeeper Mark Garcia finished with seven saves.

Flintridge Prep 1, Alhambra 0: The Rebels began their season Monday with a win in a nonleague match played at St. Francis High. Aidan Boyle scored for the Rebels, who got an assist from Andrew Lathrop and four saves from goalkeeper Hamilton Evans.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Glendale 1, Eagle Rock 0: Host Glendale started its season Monday by posting an intersectional victory. Renee Paladini scored for the Nitros midway through the second half.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale 73, Canoga Park 21: The Nitros started their season Monday with a win in the Burbank High Tournament. Glendale received 18 points from Dan Madden, 13 from Eli Degrate, 11 from Argam Agajani and 10 from Daniel Gonzalez.

Blair 81, Hoover 70: The Tornadoes (1-3) wrapped up the El Monte Tournament with a defeat Saturday in the event’s seventh-place game.
