Sports Roundup: Flintridge Prep, Hoover, St. Francis have CIF finals qualifiers

TRACK AND FIELD

St. Francis, Hoover in CIF Southern Section Division III preliminaries: The Golden Knights and Tornadoes each had an athlete advance from the prelims Saturday at Estanica High.

Matthew Molina of St. Francis finished tied for first in the high jump at 6 feet 3 inches and ninth in the triple jump (42-10 1/2).

Hoover’s Chris White took second in the shot put at 52-4 1/2.

Molina and White will participate in the CIF finals on Saturday at Cerritos College.

Flintridge Prep, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in CIF Southern Section Division IV preliminaries: Flintridge Prep’s Hanna Barakat took care of business at the prelims Saturday at Carpinteria High.

The senior standout won her heat in the 400-meter at 58.95 seconds to advance to the CIF finals. Her time was third-best across the field. Barakat also finished fourth in the 200 in 25.47 seconds.

Sasha Codiga of Flintridge Prep clocked 2:19.05 to place eighth in the 800.

Flintridge Prep’s Sophie Gitlin and Natalie O’Brien finished third and ninth, respectively, in the 3,200. Gitlin clocked 11:11.07 and O’Brien had a mark of 11:16.36.

Evan Pattinelli of Flintridge Prep took first in the boys’ 3,200 in 9:39.98. Teammate Warren Hossenian was ninth in the shot put in 45 feet 1/2 inch.

Flintridge Sacred Heart’s Lauren Bolte came up just short of qualifying in the 400, taking third in her heat and 13th overall with the top nine advancing. She finished in 60.53.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in CIF Southern Section Division I final: Christina Campbell turned in a terrific swim in the consolation final of the 200-yard freestyle, finishing second in 1 minute 51.58 seconds on Saturday at Riverside Aquatics Center.

The time would’ve been good enough for eighth place in the championship final and is a consideration mark for the state meet.

In the consolation final of the 100 backstroke, Campbell was third in 57.86, which was also a state consideration time.

BASEBALL

St. Monica Academy 7, Yeshiva 1: The visiting Crusaders closed out the regular season Thursday by going unbeaten in the Liberty League International Conference.

St. Monica (11-3, 6-0 in conference) registered a 9-2 win against Yeshiva at home Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Ramona Convent 4, Holy Family 1: The Gaels closed out their season Thursday with a Horizon League road defeat. Holy Family finished 3-14, 1-7 in league.
