Sports Roundup: Crescenta Valley girls’ basketball whallops Hoover

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 80, Hoover 11: Four Falcons scored in double figures and five tallied eight or more points in a Pacific League romp in Glendale on Friday afternoon.

Georgina Kregorian and Michelle Boghossian paced the Falcons (11-4, 2-0 in league) with 12 points each, while Mari Lee tallied 11 points, Lauren Lundeen added 10 points and Lilyana Geck contributed eight points.

Isabella Balderas finished with six points for Hoover (1-10, 0-2).

St. Monica Academy 45, New Harvest Christian 16: The Crusaders improved to 8-3, 4-0 in the International League with Friday’s win, their fifth in a row, on the road. Elizabeth McCall had 12 points and Kristina Turicci added 10 to pace St. Monica.

On Thursday, the Crusaders defeated Waverly, 43-27, in another league game. Turrichi had 13 points.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale 65, Burbank 57: Eli Degrate had 24 points to spur the host Nitros to a Pacific League win Friday. Glendale improved to 13-2, 1-1 in league as David Shamirian chipped in 14 points.

Flintridge 62, San Marino 58: Nick Davis had 16 points and Jack Cartwright added 15 on Friday to lift the host Rebels in a nonleague game. The Rebels are 4-9.

Muir 57, Glendale 45: Glendale began Pacific League play Wednesday with a home defeat.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Pasadena 1, Hoover 0: The Tornadoes lost Friday in Pacific League action, falling to 1-9-1, 0-2-1 in league.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 4, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 2: The Tologs got goals from Lauren Bolte, Campbell Green, Krista Celo and Amethyst Trang to earn a nonleague win Friday. The Tologs are 5-2-3.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Crescenta Valley 2, Muir 0: Kyle Quesada scored a pair of goals Friday at home as the Falcons won their fourth straight match and third in a row via shutout.

Crescenta Valley (8-4-2, 3-0-1 in league) got assists from Shayan Afzali and Dallas Kaauwai.

Hoover 1, Pasadena 0: Host Hoover picked up a Pacific League win Friday. The Tornadoes improved to 3-4-3, 2-0-2 in league.

Arvin Avanessian had goal off assist from Jose Aguilar.

St. Francis 1, Chaminade 0: Sebastian Ruiz scored in the 62nd minute to lift the visiting Golden Knights (7-4-1) to a Mission League-opening road win Friday.

Burroughs 2, Glendale 0: The visiting Nitros suffered a Pacific League defeat Friday. Glendale is 2-3-2, 0-2-2 in league.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Glendale Community College 78, Compton College 66: Glendale (7-10) got 18 points and eight rebounds from Serigne Athj and 16 points and four assists from Dominic Gully on Friday to earn a win in the Chaffey Tournament.

On Thursday, Glendale posted an 84-79 tournament win against College of the Desert. It received 30 points and four assists from Chris Daniels and 19 points and 12 rebounds from Athj. The Vaqueros started the tournament Wednesday with an 83-77 loss to Long Beach. Jordan Matthews had 26 points for the Vaqueros, who got 20 from Athj and 19 from Daniels.
