Sports Roundup: Glendale girls’ basketball edges Pasadena for key win

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Glendale 49, Pasadena 45: Jillian Yanai finished with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists Friday to lift the host Nitros to a Pacific League win. Glendale (12-7, 4-1 in league) received 15 points from Meri Chebishian and 12 from Mark Markaryan.

Flintridge Prep 57, Rio Hondo Prep 42: Kaitlyn Chen collected 16 points and Madison Manning added 12 on Friday to spark the visiting Rebels to a Prep League win. Flintridge Prep improved to 12-5, 4-0 in league.

St. Monica Academy 61, Sequoyah School 18: The Crusaders outscored the host school by 22 points in the first quarter and cruised to an International League victory Friday.

Sophomore Katherine Golbranson scored a game-high 16 points, while Kristina Turicchi added 14 points for St. Monica (11-3, 7-0 in league).

Arcadia 67, Hoover 15: Hoover lost a Pacific League road contest Friday. The Tornadoes are 1-13, 0-5 in league.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Crescenta Valley 70, Burroughs 65: Arman Pezeshkian finished with 32 points Friday to lift the visiting Falcons to a Pacific League win.

Christopher Arzoumanian had 13 points and Tyler Carlson added eight and Harout Tahanian had five points and 15 rebounds for the Falcons (11-7, 4-1 in league).

Flintridge Prep 67, Rio Hondo Prep 57: Visiting Flintridge Prep (7-9) tipped off Prep League play Friday with a win.

St. Monica Academy 59, International School of Los Angeles 44: The Crusaders won their seventh straight game on Friday in an International League road victory. St. Monica Academy improved to 11-2, 2-0 in league.

Crespi 68, St. Francis 42: The visiting Golden Knights trailed by nine points after one quarter and never recovered in a Mission League road defeat Friday.

Javon Jones tallied 10 points for St. Francis (9-7, 0-3 in league), which received nine points each from Andre Henry and Dennis Flowers.

Arcadia 60, Hoover 55: The visiting Tornadoes suffered a Pacific League defeat Friday. Hoover is 4-14, 0-5 in league.

Pasadena 75, Glendale 55: The reigning Pacific League champs proved too much for the Nitros in a Pacific League home defeat Friday. The loss was the third straight for Glendale, which dropped to 13-5 and 1-4 in league.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 3, Crespi 1: St. Francis got two goals from Nick Maldonado and one from Ian Odermatt to pick up a Mission League road win Friday. The Golden Knights improved to 9-4-1, 3-0 in league.

Arcadia 3, Hoover 2: The Tornadoes fell in the final minute in a Pacific League road contest. Hoover is 3-6-3, 2-2-2 in league.

Pasadena 3, Glendale 1: The Nitros fell in a Pacific League home match Friday. Glendale dropped to 3-5-2, 0-4-2 in league.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Glendale 3, Pasadena 0: Ella Wasson, Rita Grigorian and Taylor Puno scored Friday to propel the visiting Nitros to a Pacific League win. Glendale improved to 5-6-1, 1-4 in league.

Flintridge Sacred Heart 3, Alemany 3: The Tologs remained unbeaten in Mission League play with a road tie on Friday. The Tologs fell behind, 2-0, but rallied behind goals from Fiona Stayton and Amethyst Trang. Flintridge Sacred Heart is 6-2-4, 1-0-1 in league.

Arcadia 2, Hoover 0: Ambur Simmons had 14 saves as the Tornadoes played well in defeat Friday at home. Hoover is 1-11-1, 0-4-1 in the Pacific League
