[UPDATE 10/1 11:13 a.m.] The second victim in the double stabbing outside the Glendale courthouse early Monday morning died in the hospital, police said.

Police believe the man, identified as 30-year-old Sunland resident Minas Arutyunyan, was attacked, unprovoked, by another man, identified as 57-year-old Glendale resident Alex Littlejohn.

Arutyunyan was stabbed multiple times but was able to fight back, which resulted in Littlejohn’s death, according to Glendale Police spokeswoman Tahnee Lightfoot.

After the fight, which occurred just before 2 a.m. Monday, Arutyunyan was able to walk to the Glendale police station, where he used the call box to ask dispatchers for help.

Police and paramedics responded right away and found him lying on the ground in a pool of blood.

Investigators followed the trail of blood to the front of the Glendale courthouse, where Littlejohn was found dead with multiple stab wounds.

A knife was recovered somewhere within the crime scene.

Arutyunyan was transported to the hospital, where he underwent surgery and was expected to survive. Police were waiting for him to be medically cleared before speaking with him about the incident, but he died in the hospital the following evening.

“This is very unexpected for us,” said Glendale Police Sgt. Robert William.

The cause of death remains under investigation.

Details on what led up to the fight were not available, but detectives have determined that no other suspects were involved.
