Police fatally shoot dog while arresting an assault suspect in Sunset Beach
A dog was shot and killed by Huntington Beach police Sunday night after the animal bit an officer while its owner was being taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Huntington Beach police received several calls around 11:20 p.m. reporting a man hitting cars and throwing things in the 16000 block of 14th Street in Sunset Beach. When officers arrived they found evidence of vandalism and determined the man had assaulted someone, police said.

The man was uncooperative with police, and his dog bit one of the officers as they were attempting to arrest him, police said. One officer tried to shock the dog with a Taser but was unsuccessful, and the dog continued to attack and was shot and killed by another officer, police said.
Kenneth McFadden, 53, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, said Huntington Beach Police Officer Jennifer Marlatt. McFadden is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail, according to jail records.
The officer bit by the dog was treated for minor injuries at a hospital and released.
