Dozens of dogs showed off their surfing skills last weekend when pups of various breeds hopped on boards and caught waves in Huntington Beach.

Hanzo, a boxer from Montrose, took first place in the large dog division of the surfing competition.

In addition to surfing, the canines also participated in “Olympic-style” judged events like freestyle flying disc, fetch, agility and racing competitions held on Friday and Saturday near the pier.

Some dogs also competed in a diving competition, in which they took a running leap off a 40-foot dock into a 19,000-gallon pool of water.
