Puppy in pool rescued by Huntington Beach police

Huntington Beach police officers rescued a puppy from drowning in a swimming pool Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Officers were called to the 1700 block of Shipley Street at 8:51 a.m. after receiving a phone call from a neighbor about a dog sounding like it was possibly in distress, said Jennifer Marlatt, public information officer for the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Arriving officers arrived but found no one home at the location, she said.

They went into the back yard where they heard a dog whining and found the Dogo Argentino puppy had fallen into the pool and was holding onto the wall because it was unable to get out, Marlatt said.

The officers were able to pull the puppy out of the pool before calling the homeowners to let them know what had happened.

The dog was unharmed, Marlatt said.

The Huntington Beach Police Department recommends fences around pools or pool covers to prevent children and animals from falling in.
