Alan Rasmussen has been named as the interim superintendent for the Huntington Beach Union High School District.

Rasmussen, who previously served as the superintendent for the Ocean View School District from 2007 to 2011, began his new position June 15. He will remain until a permanent superintendent is hired and will lead the search effort.

Alyssa Griffiths, public information coordinator for the school district, said it is undetermined when a permanent superintendent will be hired.

Rasmussen, a Huntington Beach native, has more than 40 years of experience in K-12 education, including assistant superintendent for personnel and educational services, elementary and middle school principal and classroom teacher in various school districts.

Duane Dishno, Huntington Beach Union High School District Board of Trustees president, said the board is excited to have Rasmussen join its team.

“He has a sterling reputation as an educator in our community and we look forward to working with him,” Dishno said in a news release.

Rasmussen is filling in for former Supt. Greg Plutko, who announced in May that he accepted the superintendent position in Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District.
