Mailbag: Davenport Marina article lacked community’s perspective

Share

Many of the Huntington Harbour residents feel the Independent’s Aug. 17 article, “H.B. council pauses project,” was biased toward the developer’s (Stanko) position.

After reading about the Davenport Marina parking lot, where the Stankos are looking to build two new homes adjacent to the waterway, I was dismayed that it made the Stankos appear to be the victim, and that their proposal was superior to the existing parking lot. That is not the case.

The article failed to cite the concerns of the community, such as the risks to public safety due to the driveway configuration near the bridge, the reduced parking in the area around Baby’s beach and the blocking of public coastal views to and from the water. I look forward to a follow-up article that clarifies these points.

I think there is an ongoing story here that needs to be told.
