The Oilers share the title with Newport Harbor after their 25-14, 25-19, 25-11 sweep of the visiting Barons.

The Oilers celebrated Senior Night during its final home match of the regular season. They finished league play 9-1, their only loss coming in the first-half of league to Newport Harbor. The Oilers took their overall record to 25-1.

“Senior Night is always a great way to end the season,” Huntington Coach Craig Pazanti said. “It gives a chance to show appreciation for the kids that have been a part of the program for a while. To be able to win on that night is an added bonus. It secures us a [share of the] league title and it puts our record to 25-1.

“I feel like we are playing good volleyball as we head to Mira Costa for a nonleague match on Thursday, and get ready for the [CIF] playoffs next week.”

Huntington heads to Mira Costa Thursday in a regular-season finale for both teams. The Mustangs are ranked third in CIF-SS Division 1.

In their previous league match Friday, the Oilers swept visiting Los Alamitos Friday, 25-18, 25-13, 25-20. Senior middle blocker Davey Kim had 12 kills and five blocks and senior middle blocker Shane Holdaway seven kills and six blocks.

Fourth-ranked Newport Harbor gained a share of the Sunset title with Huntington after the Sailors won by sweep at Edison Tuesday, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21. Outside hitter Tyler Power had 12 kills and setter Corey Taylor 31 assists for the Chargers (15-12 overall).

“We started off strong in all three games, but were unable to sustain the pressure against a very good Newport Harbor team,” Edison Coach Matt Skolnik said.

Edison was coming off a 25-15, 25-17, 25-21 sweep of host Fountain Valley Friday. Outside hitter Trent Williams had nine kills and opposite Jacob Morgan seven kills for the Chargers.

Edison tied for third place with Los Alamitos, both teams ending league play at 5-5. The Griffins on Tuesday ended league play with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-15 sweep of visiting Marina.

Edison and Los Alamitos played an extra league match Wednesday to break the third-place tie. The score wasn’t available at press time. The winner will receive the league’s third automatic berth for the upcoming CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

The CIF-SS boys’ volleyball playoff pairings will be announced Friday. First-round games are at 7 p.m. next Tuesday.
