Tiaras — and smiles — glittered at La Cañada Flintridge Country Club Tuesday night as Katy Paynter was named Miss La Cañada Flintridge 2016 at the 104th Installation and Awards Gala, hosted by the La Cañada Flintridge Chamber of Commerce and Community Assn.

The six Miss LCF court members waited anxiously during Tuesday’s program, waiting for the culminating crowning event to occur. When it was time to learn who would reign as the city’s Miss LCF for 2016, each court member had her resume read by de facto “court-mom” Suzie Johnson, who finally announced the La Cañada High School junior had won this year’s honor.

The daughter of Spartan alums Jennifer Bachman Paynter (’80) and David Paynter (’74), Katy is actively involved in the school’s theater program and plays on several team sports, including softball, basketball and volleyball.

She has been involved in Girl Scouts for the past 12 years and has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award. Her interest in public service is further demonstrated by her volunteer work with several organizations, including Five Acres, which provides services to vulnerable families, area homeless shelter Door of Hope and the Ronald McDonald House.

As an intern at a local veterinarian’s office, Katy further developed her passion for the health and safety of animals and the families who love them. She shows a similar compassion and sensibility toward her fellow students, serving as a peer-to-peer student counselor in at La Cañada High’s Bridge Program.

Despite her many academic and volunteer commitments, Katy finds time to dedicate to her personal interests, which include playing piano, acting and babysitting. She also has a fondness for collecting sea shells from various beaches she visits.

Well into the second semester of her junior year, and armed with a 4.0 GPA, Katy hopes to graduate at the top of her class and eventually attend a four-year college in state, where she plans to study business and “pay it forward.”
