Days after announcing its plans to purchase a new mobile command post for use by local law enforcement personnel, the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Support Group received a $12,000 gift from the Caltech Employees Federal Credit Union, according to a news release issued Monday.

Linda Taix-Paccone, president of the support group, accepted the gift alongside Capt. Bill Song, who heads up the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. Making the presentation was Richard Harris, president and chief executive of the credit union.

“The spirit of [the Caltech credit union] has always been one of collaboration, partnering to fulfill a need,” stated Taix-Paccone.

She went on to say the La Cañada-based institution regularly comes to the aid of the all-volunteer support group, which has set its sights on raising $120,000 for the purchase of the mobile command post, a large motor home vehicle. The mobile post will be equipped with the necessary tools and technology that can be deployed from the CV Sheriff’s Station for use at large-scale incidents or catastrophes.

“Everyone in our community recognizes the importance of public safety, not only during tragic accidents or crimes, but in times of major catastrophes,” Harris stated in the release. “It’s important for every member of our community, both businesses and residents, to take ownership and be a participant in providing this valuable asset that will directly benefit us all.”

The support group is seeking additional donations to meet its $120,000 goal. Tax deductible donations can be sent to CVSSG, P.O. Box 12458, La Crescenta CA 91224-5458 (Federal Tax ID No. 95-4099206).

Capt. Song said he’s grateful to the support group for its efforts toward purchasing the vehicle.

“It will be a vital advantage as service requires and as we respond to a broad range of emergency situations,” he said. “This mobile command post will allow us to better serve our community.”
