The Valley Line: Picnic-style happy hour draws stalwart La Cañada float supporters on hot summer night

Share

Yep, it was a hot August night, but unfortunately there was no Neil Diamond in sight. Nonetheless, everyone had a wonderful time when Sarah Marshall hosted the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. monthly Happy Hour at her home, which has a beautiful, expansive backyard.

More than 50 people showed up in the sweltering heat to socialize, have a refreshing drink and taste a picnic feast of appetizers, hot dogs and desserts.

As usual, there was talk about how our 2019 float for the Rose Parade, “Tree Frog Night,” is doing. I hear it is coming right along and, in a blink of an eye, December will have arrived and it will be time to pull the float under the bridge to start flowering.

Among the local “floaters” attending the event were Art Johnson, Eremita Miranda and Larry Andreason, Pam Wiedenbeck, Sue Beatty, Stewart Lee, Joe and Lynne Thompson, Clyde and Bobbie Hemphill, Jeff Hemphill, Daryal and Mary Gant, Peggy Hotaling, Dick Grippi, Rose Linda and Ricardo Gonzales, Gloria and Jerry Beyer, John and Nancy Wolhaupter, Dorothy Rubino, Pamela and Bud Carney.

Also there were Pat Hutchins, Clara Satterfield, Peter and Cathy Palermo, Pam Gosso, Marylou Pelzer, Pat Anderson, Walt and Judie Bakley, Bob Wallace, Pat Foltyn, Anne Hills, Anne Stewart, Pam and Bud Carney, Arnold and Myrna Hershman, Lorraine Riewe Cooper, Cardy and Lorna Coate, Caroline Craven, Bob and Liz Craven, Jim Flynn, Barbie Eland and Bev Albright.
