At least one person is dead following a collision that occurred on Angeles Crest Highway above La Cañada Flintridge Thursday night.

Lt. Daniel Stanley, watch commander for the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station, said a call came in shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday reporting a collision between two vehicles near Mile Marker 28, just north of the Angeles Crest Forest Station.

At the scene of the accident Thursday night, a young man who had been at a nearby vista point with some friends said they heard the sound of the collision and called 9-1-1. Sheriff’s deputies, California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department responders arrived to the scene and blocked off the road to oncoming traffic.

Stanley said the CHP is currently investigating details of the accident. No further details on the number of people involved, or their condition, were immediately available.

Ed Winter, assistant chief of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, said Friday that one victim, described as a Hispanic male in his 20s, was confirmed dead.

The man’s next of kin had not been yet been notified, so details as to his identity could not be released, Winter said.
