Grand theft, vehicle, by embezzlement: 4500 block of Angeles Crest Highway. An employer told deputies an employee had been issued a 2013 Ford Escape as a company car, and that a written agreement had been made stating the vehicle’s ownership would be transferred to the employee if he paid off the car and was still employed by the company. But after the employee had been terminated by the company, he refused to return the car, stating the company had given it to him. He left the company in the vehicle and never returned. The employer told deputies there have been ongoing discussions between the company and the ex-employee’s attorneys over ownership of the car. When contacted by phone, the employee’s attorney said he was confident a resolution would be reached within a week. The employer said he was desirous of prosecution for embezzlement of the vehicle, since nothing has come from recent talks.

Upon arrival, they saw fresh pry marks around the front door, which was ajar. The cash register had been opened and appeared to have been tampered with, and a nearby filing cabinet was also open. During a check of the location, deputies noticed a neighboring restaurant had its glass front door smashed. The owner of the business said he closed up the night before at 9 p.m. and that a small safe near the register seemed to be the only item missing from inside.
