Crime Report: Woman returns to parked car to find window smashed in, empty purse stolen

July 3

Identity theft: 5100 block of Castle Road. A woman reported that on June 27 she received an email (sender’s name redacted from police report) regarding a suspicious transaction on a credit card account. She also said she and her husband had received letters from banks asking for personal information to process credit card applications. She reported that neither she nor her husband had authorized anyone to use their personal information to secure credit cards, and the applications were fraudulent.

July 5

Burglary, vehicle: 600 block of Foothill Boulevard. A woman reported that she left her locked, 2015 Toyota Sienna parked in a rear parking lot at about 5:30 a.m. When she returned to it at 12:30 p.m., she saw that the driver’s side window was smashed and an empty black leather purse that she’d left on the floor between the driver’s and front passenger seat had been stolen.

July 11

Identity theft: 4300 block of Woodleigh Lane. A man reported that at on July 9 he received a letter informing him of a new line of credit for a Visa credit card. He notified the issuing company that he had not requested one. He then combed through an Experian credit report where he discovered there had been 10 fraudulent attempts to open new lines of credit using his personal information , dating back to June 6. Also on July 9, the man received three packages of merchandise that he had not ordered. He contacted the company through which they were purchased but a representative there said she could not provide him with any information as to who had ordered them. She advised him to keep the items, since the goods were already paid for.
