Quick Hits: Power outages plague LCF

Share

Thousands of La Cañada residents, students and businesses recently experienced a loss of power as Southern California Edison reported a total of 11 outages, planned and unplanned, occurring throughout the city between Friday and Monday.

One of those outages, the result of a fallen tree on Berkshire Avenue east of Woodleigh Lane, left La Cañada High School without electricity for several hours Friday, but did not result in the cancellation of classes, La Cañada Unified School District Supt. Wendy Sinnette reported Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for SCE said Friday’s outage affected a total of 1,576 customers in two areas and lasted from 6:10 a.m. until 10:46 p.m., although 29 of those customers saw power restored within two hours.

A second unplanned outage on Saturday, due to a possible equipment failure involving underground cable, left 1,339 customers without power from 2:53 p.m. for varying periods of time until 9:16 a.m. the following day. Another smaller outage, cause unknown, on Monday affected six customers, the spokeswoman said.

Additionally, eight planned improvement and repair outages occurred during the same three-day period in various parts of town, including an equipment replacement Saturday night that affected 121 residents on Ocean View Boulevard south of Foothill Boulevard for about 13 hours and a pole replacement Friday that affected 70 customers on Foothill east of Beulah for more than seven hours, the spokeswoman reported.

Parks can be booked online

Residents wishing to reserve park space in La Cañada can now do so through an online reservation form available on the city’s website, www.lcf.ca.gov/parks, and will soon be able to view a calendar of available times and dates to further streamline the booking process.

The new accommodations are the result of a recent partnership between the city and University of Southern California Sol Price School of Public Policy. Four students recently worked with the city as part of their Graduate Capstone Project through the school’s Masters of Public Administration program.

Students made a series of recommendations to the La Cañada Parks and Recreation Commission that are coming to fruition. Commissioner Jim Kambe said he appreciated the students’ efforts to streamline the parks reservation process. Another recommendation, a Frequently Asked Questions page on the parks website, is coming soon.
