Letter: ‘Cap park’ idea could work here

Share

A recent L. A. Times/Glendale News-Press article reports that Glendale city officials are looking at covering a portion of the Glendale (134) Freeway and creating “green space” with amenities such as a walking path, children’s play area, a nature park, etc.

We should look into doing the same, a “cap park” over the Foothill (210) Freeway through La Cañada. Capping would significantly cut down on the noise and pollution from the cars and trucks on the 210, especially since Caltrans is bent on extending and connecting the 710 Freeway with ours.

Beginning with the area between Oakwood and Commonwealth avenues, it would be like our Memorial Park, which covers a section of the 210. With that portion in place the cap park could be extended both east and west. Perhaps our city officials could get together with Glendale’s and see if it’s practical.
