Sports Roundup: La Cañada girls’ basketball continues to run through Rio Hondo League

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 47, Temple City 30: The Spartans continued an unblemished run through Rio Hondo League play with a home victory Wednesday afternoon.

Zoe Williams scored a team-high 15 points and added 10 rebounds and five blocks for La Cañada (15-5, 3-0). Stephanie Musso added 12 points.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 49, Brentwood 32: On the strength of winning the second quarter, 18-0, the Tologs pulled away to a nonleague victory at home on Wednesday evening to improve to 7-13.

BOYS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 8, Temple City 1: The Spartans improved to 5-4-4, 2-0-1 in the Rio Hondo League with Tuesday afternoon’s resounding victory at home.

Alemany 1, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights’ offensive troubles continued with Wednesday evening’s Mission League loss on the road.

St. Francis (6-4-4, 1-2-2) has been shut out in four straight games and is riding a scoreless streak of 331 minutes in a row. Overall, the Golden Knights have been shut out six times.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 5, Mayfield 0: Following its first Prep League loss to Pasadena Poly on Saturday, the Rebels rebounded in a big way with Wednesday’s Prep League victory on the road.

Helen Schaeffer had a pair of goals and an assist for the Rebels (15-3-3, 4-1-1 in league), while Julia Gonzalez also had two goals and Caitlin Fong had two assists. Mikaela Celeste added a goal and Jenna Mijares had an assist.

La Cañada 3, Temple City 0: The Spartans ran their record to 5-9-1, 2-0 in the Rio Hondo League with Tuesday afternoon’s shutout on the road.

La Cañada 14, Monrovia 3: The Spartans picked up a Rio Hondo League-opening victory Tuesday at home.
