Sports Roundup: La Cañada girls’ basketball goes 1-3 in opening tournament
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
La Cañada in Palisades Beach Tournament: It was a bumpy start to the season for the Spartans, who finished 1-3 in the four-day tournament that ended Saturday.
Sophomore Brooke Yasuda led the squad with 36 points and five steals over the tournament, while senior center Zoe Williams tallied 33 points and 14 rebounds.
La Cañada lost to Alemany (52-33 score), Agoura (53-38) and Oaks Christian (49-44), but defeated Taft (56-44).
Flintridge Prep 61, La Salle 44: Visiting Flintridge Prep tipped off its season Tuesday with a nonleague victory. Renae Tamura had 22 points for the Rebels, who got 14 from Kaitlyn Chen and 10 from Taylor Yoshida.
Village Christian 45, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 26: Flintridge Sacred Heart started its season Tuesday with a nonleague defeat. The Tologs (0-2) got seven points from Janna deVera.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 4, Temple City 1: Flintridge Sacred Heart opened the season Tuesday, getting a hat trick from Hillary Howard to post a nonleague home win at Occidental College.
BOYS’ SOCCER
St. Francis 3, Canyon Country Canyon 1: Christian Ibarra had two goals and Nick Maldonado added two assists Tuesday to power the visiting Golden Knights in a season-opening nonleague win. Mike Guzman added a goal for St. Francis.
